What are we reading?

Any Ordinary Day
In this national bestseller by one of Australia’s most respected journalists, Leigh Sales explores the theme of ‘Blindsides, Resilience and What Happens After the Worst Day of Your Life’ and looks for answers about how vulnerable we are to life-changing events. She shares with us what happens when ordinary people, on ordinary days, are forced to suddenly find the resilience most of us don’t know we have.

Everything is Figureoutable
In this #1 New York Times bestseller, Marie Forleo – described by Oprah as a thought leader for the next generation – explores how to ‘Get unstuck, unleash your potential and start living the life you’ve always wanted’. She offers practical ways to train your brain to think more positively and break down any dream into manageable steps, alongside stories of those who have used the philosophy to transform their lives.

Not Just Lucky
In this unashamedly feminist career manifesto, Jamila Rizvi explores the confidence deficit that is holding women back, the barriers to career success this can create, and how they might be overcome. Through case studies, detailed research, and her own experiences in politics and media, she offers you the advice you need to start fighting for your own success, as well as a more equal and inclusive workplace for all.

Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?
In this positive and practical handbook for better mental health, Dr Julie Smith draws on her years of experience as a clinical psychologist to offer simple advice, effective strategies, and coping techniques to help you stay positive and resilient. Through tackling the common issues that can affect us all, she offers practical solutions and tools to overcome the everyday challenges and might just change your life.

You Take Care
This realistic guide to looking after yourself is from Laura Henshaw and Steph Claire Smith, who are best friends and founders of the health and lifestyle brand Keep It Cleaner. In the absence of a blueprint for taking care of yourself while balancing all the things life throws at you, they share what they’ve learnt about taking care of their mental health and relationships – in a search for progress over perfection.

What are we watching?

14 Peaks
In this inspiring Netflix documentary, you’re invited to follow fearless Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja as he embarks on the seemingly impossible quest to summit all 14 of the world’s 8,000-metre peaks within a record time of seven months. This story is an example of courage and determination in the face of obstacles and setbacks – and a reminder that nothing is impossible when you believe in yourself.

The Crown
In the latest season of this Netflix series, we follow the late Queen Elizabeth II into the 1990s and the political and personal events that shaped her reign. As we follow the monarchy through the decades, we’re offered an inside perspective to the personal intrigues and political rivalries that have played a part in shaping our recent history – and the opportunity to reflect on the shifting relevance of the monarchy.

Formula 1: Drive to Survive
In the latest season of this Netflix documentary series, we follow Formula 1 drivers, managers, and team owners who live life in the fast lane – both on and off the track. We see the behind-the-scenes teamwork required to prepare for the upcoming racing season, including re-building their vehicles from the ground up, and that it takes much more than the driver to finish first in a championship that is anyone’s to win.

Hacks
This Emmy Award winning comedy series explores the mentorship that forms between a legendary Las Vegas comedian, who is in danger of losing her residency, and an entitled young writer, who is desperate for a job. We follow the highs and lows of their dysfunctional relationship, while seeing the personal growth that happens along the way, in this less-than-perfect example of a mentoring relationship.

TED Talks: Adam Grant

In this series of TED Talks that have over 25 million views, Adam Grant rethinks how people lead, work, and live. Recognised as one of ‘The World’s Ten Most Influential Business Thinkers’, his pioneering research has inspired people to question their assumptions about motivation, generosity, and creativity. Explore ‘The surprising habits of original thinkers’ and ‘How to stop languishing and start finding flow’.
